Hello! I'm Hima

I design, manage and mentor;
I can be described as an analytical problem solver, strategic planner, avid reader, amateur dancer, mom of two, and seeker of new things to learn.

I'm curious, empathetic, enjoy a good argument and love a good laugh.

I believe that everything happens for a reason, so I never stop asking "Why?" until I have the answer.

My Journey

Growing up:
Developing curiosity

I was a skinny, geeky kid, who spent her time reading books, doing IQ tests and Mensa puzzles, playing Minesweeper and Hangman on her Windows '94. I loved solving problems and asking questions, much to the annoyance of my teachers.

As an Indian kid who grew up in the 90s, I was told I could become anything I want, as long as I got a degree in Engineering. So I did, at one of India's 14 National Institutes of Technology; and I chose Metallurgy and material sciences, for the extra challenge.

Engineering Days:
Developing my analytical and leadership skills

Eventually it was time to switch to a field I really enjoyed, so I turned to Information Technology. I honed my skills in analytical problem solving and leadership skills as a Web developer and Team Lead at Infosys Technologies, one of India's largest IT services provider. But I didn't understand the purpose of my work until I was introduced to UX.

UX Design:
Finding purpose and my true calling

Working at Bank of America, I became a believer in user-centered design, and saw first-hand the productivity of collaborating with different teams. My flexibility and steep learning curve earned me a rapid growth from an on-site coordinator, to independent designer and project lead. I was blessed with excellent team mates and mentors, who help me realize my true calling.

Now:
Still a problem solver, but with help!

I chose to work at startups to expand my horizons as a designer and strategist. Working closely with stakeholders and clients at multiple levels and got introduced to the world of AI, conversation design and service design. â€‹After some time off to chart my career path and picking up new skills, I continue to solve problems, for businesses and their users, now with the help of AI. :)

I learnt that effective design strategy with simplicity can have massive impacts on business outcomes. I am fortunate to be at the cusp of the next disruptive technology and ready to start exploring again. I can't wait for the next chapter to begin!

When I'm not designing: Momming, Reading, Dancing

After a long day of working and playing mom to my two girls, I spend whatever little free time I have reading books and web toons, enjoying some good standup comedy or sitcoms, and dancing. I love a good fantasy or dystopian story that sparks imagination and admire great artwork. Totally recommend Purple Hyacinth by Ephemeris and Sophism, absolutely enthralled by the story, art and music. I dance to stay fit, bringing together my love for music and my need to exercise.
